Character #2: Maverek // Blogging Schedule

 Hey!

I haven't even posted since the blog tour (which was so much fun!), but I'm finally back with the next character interview and what I *hope* will be a blogging schedule I can keep up with! First off, the schedule:

I'm going to try to post every Tuesday morning, with posts on Fridays sometimes. With school, writing, and life . . . who knows how often those Friday posts will come.

Now, on to interviewing Maverek! He isn't overly thrilled about this, but he agreed to try. *sighs* Finally.

Here goes!

Abby: Hey, Maverek! I'm so glad you could come!

Maverek: *smiles slightly* Only because you and Briannon begged me.

Abby: Well, I appreciate it! I'll try to keep this shorter than Bree's.

Maverek: Thank you.

Abby: Okay, to start us off, what does your name mean?

Maverek: In your time, it means "independent." I think that meaning was invented somewhat recently, though.

Abby: I think so. But, hey, it fits you! Maybe too well.

Maverek: I suppose it does.

Abby: What about your theme song?

Maverek: *clears throat* Briannon informed me that it is "Heart of Stone" by Britt Nicole.

Abby: And do you think it fits?

Maverek: Next question.

Abby: Okay. Well . . . what is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Maverek: I . . . I don't even know. Dark chocolate, maybe.

Abby: That makes sense. *smiles* Favorite restaurant?

Maverek: I don't like the idea of eating out.

Abby: I didn't think you would. It's not my favorite thing to do, either. Grocery store?

Maverek: Where do these questions even come from? I wasn't expecting . . . this.

Abby: *grins* A friend of mine. It's a lot better than if I came right out and asked you what your biggest fear is, right?

Maverek: Are those the kinds of questions you had planned? In that case, I'm very grateful to your friend.

Abby: *chuckles* Well . . . that is a good question for an interview like this. But I knew you wouldn't answer it anyway. Anyway, back to the grocery store.

Maverek: Isn't it simpler to just hunt and find your own food?

Abby: Well, there is that . . . Here's an easier one. Favorite animal.

Maverek:  Maybe a Silk Wolf. Or Range Dog. What you call them depends on where you're from.

Abby: Care to explain why that's your favorite animal?

Maverek: No.

Abby: Okay. Next question. What's your favorite color?

Maverek: What I think you call a "navy blue."

Abby: Yes, that fits you! Favorite sound?

Maverek: Silence. Or, at least the kind of silence you hear when you're outside late at night. When the insects are chirping and the owls are calling, but it still sounds like silence.

Abby: Ah, yes. What's your favorite hobby?

Maverek: Hunting, probably. I guess you could count that as a hobby, even though I did it to feed my family.

Abby: Do you like to read or write?

Maverek: Not often. I try to avoid reading aloud, and I almost never write.

Abby: I would ask more, but . . .

Maverek: You know I wouldn't answer?

Abby: Right. Well, those are all the questions I have for you! Thank you so much for joining me today!

Well, I hope y'all enjoyed that! See y'all next time!

Let Me Introduce You...

I admit it.      My characters are real people to me. They have personalities, ideals, quirks, motivations, beliefs, good points, bad points. Like real-life people. I just happened to make these people up.     They're real to me, though, and I hope that, once you read their stories, they'll be real to you, too (a lot of commas right there).     First, though, you've got to know who they are. So that's what this post is about. I want to introduce you to some of the major characters in my novel, then you can ask questions about them - questions that they can answer in upcoming posts.     Now, to those intros. Protagonist: Briannon     Seventeen-year-old Briannon should be living in Zayvia's castle with her family of nobility. Instead, she's been living with a peasant family since she was twelve. She's left ruling to her uncle and sister - that's the way it's always been, even if it's wrong. But som e things are impossible to igno...

7 Days of Hope: Day 7!

Welcome to one of the last stops on the 7 Days of Hope Blog Tour! I hope you've enjoyed this tour and that it's been an encouragement to you. <3  Hebrews 10:23 (NLT) says, "Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise." When I was trying to find a verse and a translation to use for today, I came across something interesting - some versions used the word "hope" here, as the NLT does. And some didn't. So, curious, I traced it back to the Greek using the built-in Strong's Concordance in one of my Bible apps. The word used here for "hope" is "elpis" (pronounced, "elle-PEACE"). It doesn't mean just, plainly, "hope" or "faith," as it's translated. One definition is, more directly, "hope." But the word, in two of three definitions and by its root word, means "expectation." Oddly enough, the word itself doesn't even s...

Picture Perfect: Book Cover Design Crash Course - Part 2

Welcome to Day 2 of my cover design series!  Let me preface this by saying that, more than last time, a lot of these things I'll mention are opinion. And some of these "rules" are even more breakable than the font "rules." These are opinions and tips that I've learned over the past years, but they're not set in stone. 😊 Without any further ado, let's get started! *Note: All of the covers were designed by me on the free Canva website, my favorite place to create book covers and other graphics. Unless otherwise noted, all of the stories and authors are completely imaginary; I made them all up. Please don't use any of the covers in this post without my permission.* Picture Choice Now, there are a lot of common mistakes people make when designing book covers, but one of the most common is picture choice. There are a whole lot of examples of this, and the most common one might be cheesy stock pictures. Now, aside from the fact that you might want to ...
