About

Hey! I'm Abby Elissa!

First off, let me say how much I dislike writing things about myself like this...but here goes nothing (and how hard can a list be?).

• Jesus is everything I need.
• I'm a teenaged girl and I've been homeschooled my whole life.
• I've been dreaming up stories for nearly as long as I can remember, though they've - thankfully - grown in depth since those first ones...
• I read a whole lot of genres and I can't honestly say I have a favorite.
• I'm a nerd in many different ways - grammar (expect me to correct your mistakes or to cringe if you leave out the Oxford comma 😁), math, history, science, literature, and useless facts. And I even have nerd glasses.
• I started drinking coffee earlier this year, and now I have strong opinions on it. I drink it hot and black. Like John Wayne.
• I spend way too much time stressing over font choices...so many options, but only one will be perfect!
• I love graphic design! I've made a few book covers for friends, and I make graphics for our church regularly.
• Whoever said not to judge a book by its cover better have been talking symbolically. I judge nearly every book by its cover, and I'm not ashamed of that. 😁
• I'm a perfectionist all the way! And I'm proud of it.
• I'm an INTJ, but, no, that doesn't mean that I lack emotions or that I actually plot ways to take over the world. 😂 (Used to think I was an INFJ, then realized that I was typed wrong, and . . . it's a long story.)
• I love all kinds of animals, especially horses. And lizards. Lizards are just amazing. Especially Komodo Dragons.
• I love the first-person POV - a story told in first-person has an automatic advantage in my mind.
• I overuse ellipses...and the word "y'all" (and parentheses).

I'm glad to meet y'all! What do we have in common? What's completely different about us?

Let Me Introduce You...

I admit it.      My characters are real people to me. They have personalities, ideals, quirks, motivations, beliefs, good points, bad points. Like real-life people. I just happened to make these people up.     They're real to me, though, and I hope that, once you read their stories, they'll be real to you, too (a lot of commas right there).     First, though, you've got to know who they are. So that's what this post is about. I want to introduce you to some of the major characters in my novel, then you can ask questions about them - questions that they can answer in upcoming posts.     Now, to those intros. Protagonist: Briannon     Seventeen-year-old Briannon should be living in Zayvia's castle with her family of nobility. Instead, she's been living with a peasant family since she was twelve. She's left ruling to her uncle and sister - that's the way it's always been, even if it's wrong. But som e things are impossible to igno...

7 Days of Hope Blog Tour - My Post!

Hey, y'all!  I hope you've enjoyed this blog tour so far! These girls' posts are so beautiful and hopeful! I didn't realize how inspiring it would be to see so many people sharing what hope is to them!     Well - now it's my turn! Here goes!     Since I was little, my favorite Bible verse has been Isaiah 43:1.     (Feel free to download this image and the one below! You can use them as phone wallpapers - that's what I plan on doing with them!)     The wonderful, encouraging verse that comes right after this one, about God being with you through deep waters, seems to be quoted a lot more. But that wasn't the verse that I clung to for years. It was this one. Where God said that He had called me by name .    What hope could ever be greater than knowing that the God of the universe has called you by name?      When I think of hope and beauty and wonder...     O ne of my favorite classic heroines comes...

Fonts & Titles: Book Cover Design Crash Course - Part 1

Welcome to day one in my new three-part series!  For three Tuesdays in a row, I want to share some tips about the incredible art of designing book covers. I've spent hours and hours researching, observing, critiquing, experimenting with, stressing over, and having fun with book cover design. And I'm still not tired of it. Matter of fact, I spent hours yesterday making sample covers for this blog post, knowing full and well that there wasn't even a story to go with any of them. However, for a lot of y'all, stressing for hours over the perfect book cover probably  isn't  your idea of fun.  But that doesn't mean you get to skip doing it. I know that a lot of people will tell you that you should always  hire a professional to create your cover. And I'm not saying that isn't a good idea.  But I know that professional book covers are expensive, and that a lot of indie authors don't have a couple hundred dollars lying around to buy one. So, hopefully, I can...
