Character #1: Briannon

Hey, y'all!

So, I know it's later than I meant for it to be, but here's the first character interview! Today I'll be talking with Briannon, my main character (and my favorite character - yes, I play favorites).

Here we go!

Abby: Hi, Briannon! Welcome to my blog! How do you like it?

Briannon: *laughs* It looks good, I suppose! I've never really seen any blogs.

Abby: True...well, why don't you start off by introducing yourself?

Briannon: Alright...here's what you wrote about me:

Seventeen-year-old Briannon should be living in Zayvia's castle with her family of nobility. Instead, she's been living with a peasant family since she was twelve. She's left ruling to her uncle and sister - that's the way it's always been, even if it's wrong. But some things are impossible to ignore. When an opportunity to defend her land and revolt against her uncle's twisted ways arises, she dives in headfirst. And that's how she ends up being the one to tell this story.

She's got the fiery red hair that should mark her as bold and reckless, but she's still hiding in the shadows. She'll question anything, and she can't stand the thought of fighting - or even living - without a cause. She has to be driven by something, something that she understands. Without that cause, she would wither up and die. With it? Just try to stop her.

Abby: So...

Briannon: Is that enough? Can I go now?

Abby: Remember, you promised you would do this interview. And if you don't do it, there's no way I'll get some of the others to.

Briannon: Alright. Let's go.

Abby: First off, let's tell them about what we just finished doing.

Briannon: *grins* Abby gave us all a crash course in 21st-century America (it sounds insane compared to my world). That way we can answer the questions without being extremely confused. I agreed to do the interview, but we'll have to see about the other four...I'm not sure they're all so keen on having a post about them. Not that Abby gave them a choice, but she has a hard time controlling them.

Abby: You didn't have to tell the world that. *grimaces* But, yeah, keeping them focused can be really difficult sometimes. Okay, moving on. First off, a few questions I have for you. Then we'll move to the questions a wonderful friend of mine asked. Ready?

Briannon: No. But I'll give it a try.

Abby: *smiles* Thanks. I'll help you out if you need it. So, first question: What does your name mean?

Briannon: Strong.

Abby: Umm...there's more to it than that. I was Googling it before you knew what Google was.

Briannon: Google is the weird place where you can search for anything, isn't it? It's fascinating, but how can--

Abby: Bree, you're trying to distract me.

Briannon: Yeah. Okay, it means "strong," but it also means things like "noble" and even relates to being high up. But that part doesn't fit.

Abby: Umm...yes, it does.

Briannon: No. I'm only strong sometimes, and I'm certainly not noble or anything like that. Ever.

Abby: *sigh* Can we talk about this later?

Briannon: Yeah. What's the next question? *reaches for the paper*

Abby: *pulls the paper back* Hang on, I'll read it to you. You'll read all the questions at once and have too long to think about your answers. Okay, next question is "What would be your theme song?"

Briannon: I'm pretty sure you've listened to a whole lot more "contemporary" music than me. You know, there's this little problem that I don't have - um - what was it called?

Abby: YouTube?

Briannon: *nods*

Abby: Remember those that I played for you?

Briannon: Yeah. Umm...would it be "Walk on the Water" by Britt Nicole?

Abby: That's a good one, but...no. Wrong choice.

Briannon: I thought this was an interview. You know, no wrong answers?

Abby: A few weeks ago that would have been the right answer. But it's changed. Now, it's "Brave" by Moriah Peters. I think of you every time I hear that song.

Briannon: Thanks, I guess? What's the next one?

Abby: Well...my friend gave us so many great questions, we'll just move on to hers! First one: Why is Briannon living with a peasant family instead of in the castle?

Briannon: *deep breath* Well, that's a mess. There was a war when I was twelve years old, back when my parents were ruling Zayvia. There was a lot of danger and bloodshed, enough that my parents were killed in it. My Uncle Jako - Father's brother - took over the throne. Uncle wanted me to be safe - or so he said -, so he sent me secretly to live with a peasant family until the danger had passed.

We won the war. But Uncle didn't call me back then. It didn't bother me, though, because I loved that peasant family, no matter that they were miles below me in social status. I didn't want to live like nobility. So I stayed. I go back for important feasts and such, even if I hate it. But the rest of the time I live with my real family - Hawke and Indie.

Confused yet? And that's only the short version.

Abby: Wow. Now, next question: What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Briannon: You were preparing us for this question, weren't you? That's why you fed us ice cream?

Abby: *smiles* Guilty as charged.

Briannon: Well...I'm going to have to go with peanut butter cup ice cream.

Abby: Good choice! Favorite restaurant?

Briannon: Oh...well, I don't know much about restaurants...but maybe a take-out pizza place? Simple and fast and cheap. So much more practical than sitting down and having somebody wait on you like you're royalty.

Abby: *chuckles* I should have known you'd choose take-out. Favorite grocery store?

Briannon: Um...the little country one that only the locals know about. I'm sure there's one everywhere. Or probably a farmer's market, if that counts.

Abby: Good enough! Favorite animal?

Briannon: Horse. They're strong and powerful. They can be tamed, but several of them are happiest when they're running free. And they're herd animals. They hate being alone. I know I'm what you call an "introvert," but that doesn't mean I want to survive without other people.

Abby: That sounds just about right for you. This is why we're so much alike...do you realize you've given a lot of the same answers I would have? *grins*

Briannon: *grins* Yeah... Next question?

Abby: Favorite color.

Briannon: Green. Any shade of green works, really. I like dark green the best because it blends into the forest. But green...it's just so pretty. And it's everywhere. I'm pretty sure it's one of God's favorite colors.

Abby: Every time I see you, you're wearing some form of green, it seems. *smiles* What about your favorite sound?

Briannon: Umm...Sheba, my horse, nickering. That has to rank pretty high up. But I also love waking up to hear Indie in the kitchen, cooking breakfast.

Abby: What about your favorite hobby?

Briannon: That's easy. Sword fighting. And please don't tell me that ladies shouldn't be doing that.

Abby: I think it sounds fun! And I figure some of the people reading this will feel the same way! Next question: Do you like to read and/or write?

Briannon: I learned to read growing up, but I quickly ran out of interesting books. I love poetry, though. I love to read it and - I don't really talk about this much - I enjoy writing it sometimes.

Abby: I didn't know you wrote poetry!

Briannon: Not a lot. Just once in a while. And then I hide it.

Abby: Come on, you have to let me read some of it sometime.

Briannon: Maybe...

Abby: Well, I think those are all the questions! Thanks so much for agreeing to do this!

Briannon: I might have been one of the easier ones to convince...

Abby: *grimaces* Yeah. Maverek won't give me a good answer. His interview is supposed to be the next one, to be posted sometime next week, maybe.

Briannon: Have fun with that! *grins*

Abby: Well, I guess we'd better finish this post up now. I'd better start talking to Maverek if I expect to have any questions answered by next week...

Briannon: *sigh* Probably so. Well, I don't know what else I'm supposed to say. I'd probably mess it up anyway. But thanks for reading! And thanks, Friend, for all the questions!

Abby: Bye, y'all! I hope you enjoyed! And stay tuned for a special blogging announcement tomorrow! 😁

Until the next time!

    3. I'm so glad you're looking forward to them!!!! 💙💙 Haha, yep! You gave me all those good questions, so I can't let them go to waste! I showed it to him, but he just grimaced and said "Maybe." *sigh* He really doesn't like opening up to anybody, so getting him to open up online will take a heap of convincing. He opens up to Bree pretty well, though. Maybe she could help me interview him. 😊 He'll be more likely to go for that, I think. 😄

  4. This was fun to read! You must have needed to brief them on a lot of things in order to prepare them for the interviews. :P
Briannon asked "Confused yet?" about why she's living with a peasant family. You can tell her that I wasn't confused; it makes sense to me! (Of course, I'm probably missing some confusing details?? Idk.)
She sounds like a fun person, though I'm not sure sword fighting sounds enjoyable... ;)

    1. 💙💙💙 Thanks!! And, yes...I had to do a whole lot of explaining. The girls listened well, but the guys...*sigh* Not so much.
😃😃 I'm glad it made sense! Yes, we left out a lot of details...but if you could keep up with what she did tell, maybe it would all make sense to you! 😃
I'm glad! She is a fun person - most of the time. 😁 And I guess swinging around a big heavy blade only sounds fun to some people. 😂 And Briannon is good at it...I've never tried it with anything more dangerous than a wooden flagpole. 😂

  5. AMAZING! I loved the little tidbit about the crash course! But wait.... Hawke and Indie aren't even related to her?

Fonts & Titles: Book Cover Design Crash Course - Part 1

Welcome to day one in my new three-part series!  For three Tuesdays in a row, I want to share some tips about the incredible art of designing book covers. I've spent hours and hours researching, observing, critiquing, experimenting with, stressing over, and having fun with book cover design. And I'm still not tired of it. Matter of fact, I spent hours yesterday making sample covers for this blog post, knowing full and well that there wasn't even a story to go with any of them. However, for a lot of y'all, stressing for hours over the perfect book cover probably  isn't  your idea of fun.  But that doesn't mean you get to skip doing it. I know that a lot of people will tell you that you should always  hire a professional to create your cover. And I'm not saying that isn't a good idea.  But I know that professional book covers are expensive, and that a lot of indie authors don't have a couple hundred dollars lying around to buy one. So, hopefully, I can

The Writerly Sibling Tag

Welcome back for another tag!! Tags are so fun, aren't they? :D Rule One: Thank the blogger who tagged you & provide a link to their post. So, uh, Katja stole this post from someone who stole this post from someone who stole this post. So I'm just keeping the tradition going! :D But you can read Katja's post here. Thanks, girl! Rule Two: Answer the inquires, including any ones added by means of rule six. Rule Three: Always use your own characters. No exception, unless you don’t actually have sibling characters (in which case you need to go write up some) or you don’t write (in which case you need to start ASAP). Rule Four: Tag three other bloggers. Rule Five: If you happen to have any siblings who blog, they are automatically tagged & cannot count towards your three. Rule Six: Add one question or prompt to the list of questions the person before you answered relating to siblings &/or characters. Answer the question, and provide a list of all the questions of

I'm Sorry // My Temporary Absence

Hi!!! First off, I wanna apologize - I should have made this post a week or two ago. *winces* But, I'm doing it now! I've been having a pretty rough time lately, for several reasons. And stressing over my never-ending to-do list was one issue. So, I've been making a lot of changes in my life recently—including temporarily pausing a lot of online stuff. I still keep in contact with my two closest friends (We all live in separate time zones, so it's not like we get to go visit each other's houses when we want to talk. 🙄) and my Bible study group, but that's about the extent of my online "social life" for a bit.  Hopefully I'll be back into the blogging sphere before long, though! When I do, I should have some powerful new posts!! Keep me in your prayers and I'll see you soon! P.S. I'm signed up for a blog tour of one my favorite books, so that'll still be coming really soon! I'll pop back into the blogging world for a few days there,
